Lock cylinder
Is a mechanical element usually separated from the associated lock (e.g. mortise or box lock) and operated by a key.
We offer you a wide range of Lock cylinders leading manufacturers.
Function of the locking cylinder
By inserting the appropriate key into the keyway of the cylinder core, the locking cylinder's locking elements, the pin tumblers (consisting of core pins, body pins and compression springs) are pressed onto one level and then release a separating plane between the cylinder core and cylinder body.
This allows the cylinder core to be turned with the inserted key. The locking cam (bit) of the cylinder actuates the bolt mechanism of the lock in question, thus unlocking the door, window or other.
When the key is removed, the locking elements are pressed by the compression springs to the bore end of the cylinder core. In this way, they lock the cylinder core and the cylinder body. It is therefore not possible to turn the cylinder core and thus operate the locking mechanism.
In order to adapt to different door leaf thicknesses and the different thicknesses of the fittings, the various profile cylinders in different lengths are available. Depending on the manufacturer, the cylinder lengths are produced in 5 mm increments, e.g. 30/30 mm (31/31 mm), 30/35 mm (31/36 mm), 35/35 mm (36/36 mm), etc.
common designs are:
- double, knob or half cylinder
- rim cylinder
- camlock cylinder
- electric switch
- and many other variants
They must be protected against breaking, drilling, pulling and other attacks.
Locking cylinders with drilling and core extraction protection offer a high degree of resistance to the well-known opening methods.
